2018 Murph Challenge

Murph Challenge

The Murph Challenge is an annual event held around the globe on Memorial Day weekend to raise awareness and funds for the Lt. Michael Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.  The event is named after Navy Seal Lt Michael Murphy, who died in combat in Afghanistan in 2005 (and part of group of SEALs depicted in the movie, Lone Survivor.)  Participants complete a series of Crossfit exercises consisting of a mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats, and then another mile run.  The Murph Challenge continues to build in popularity, raising nearly $1,000,000 in the past four years, and now funding over 27 scholarships annually.  This year in Berlin, nine members from the embassy community, including Ambassador Grenell, tested their mettle in this worthwhile event, further illustrating their dedication to this important cause.  Despite grueling heat of the morning sun, a good time was had by all with plenty of laughs, and more importantly, no broken bones!!
