Berlin Peace Wall Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Students fix their tiles to the Peace Wall

In Berlin Mitte (Grosse Hamburger Strasse 25), students, artists, and guests participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the inauguration of the Berlin Peace Wall.  The idea of creating the colorful mosaic wall came from New York-based CITYarts’ Executive and Creative Director, Tsipi Ben-Haim, and was sponsored in part by the U.S. Embassy.  The wall, including individually painted tiles featuring themes of peace, were created over the past three months by youth of various religious and ethnic backgrounds from 12 different schools from across Berlin.   During the ceremony, students and honored guests placed the last tiles on the wall, which symbolizes the hope for a peaceful future.  It is the fifth of its kind around the world. Read more about CITYarts’ Peace Walls.
