Benjamin Chapman assumed his duties in Düsseldorf in November 2016. Before his arrival in Germany, he was assigned as a consular officer to the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Before joining the Foreign Service, Ben worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan and Astana, Kazakhstan. Prior to those overseas assignments with USAID, he worked in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Peace Corps as the Central Asia desk officer, and for the U.S. Department of Commerce as an International Trade Specialist. Ben graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. with a B.A. in International Relations and Economics. After graduation, Ben served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan. Following his two-year volunteer service, he returned to American University to receive a M.S. in Development Management. In addition to German, Ben speaks Russian. He was born and raised in Rhode Island. Ben is married and has two boys.
