Ambassador Emerson at Margot Friedlander Award Ceremony

On February 9, Ambassador John B. Emerson delivered a laudation at the award ceremony hosted by the Schwarzkopf Foundation for the recipients of the Margot Friedlander Award.
Since 1971, the Schwarzkopf Foundation works to involve young people in politics and spark enthusiasm for European integration. The foundation´s mission is to support the development of young people into politically-aware and responsible citizens by focusing on the strengthening of the European Idea and pan-European understanding. In honor of Margot Friedländer, the Schwarzkopf Foundation grants the Margot Friedlander Award. The prize and the related competition aim to encourage young students, teachers, and schools to engage themselves in the history of the Holocaust and today´s culture of remembrance. The prize serves as a motivation to get active in the fight against anti-Semitism, right-wing extremism, and political isolation. The Margot Friedländer Prize was awarded to the Human Family Project by the Georg Büchner Gymnasium and the Archiv AG Project by the Hermann-Ehlers-Gymnasium, while the Remembering Our Jewish Citizens project by the Löcknitz-Grundschule received an honorary recognition.
