The German American Partnership Program promotes German-American school partnerships through project support and participation in flight costs for German and American students and teachers. Secondary schools and vocational schools can participate in the program. There are currently more than 791 school partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic. The program helps students from Germany and the United States to get to know each other’s culture and participate in school and family life in the host country.
With the German American Virtual Exchange (GAVE), GAPP has also been promoting virtual exchange encounters since mid-2020. Students are approached with digital offers and can carry out a virtual exchange as a supplement or alternative to the classic exchange.
GAPP has been managed and implemented by the Pedagogical Exchange Service (PAD) in cooperation with GAPP Inc. at the Goethe-Institute in New York since 1982. Funding is provided by the German Foreign Office and the U.S. Department of State.
