On June 22, 2018, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross concluded the fifth SelectUSA Investment Summit. More than 3,000 people attended this year’s Summit, and registrants included 1,200 business representatives from 66 foreign markets and economic development organizations (EDOs) from 51 U.S. states and territories. During the event, Secretary Ross was joined by 10 Governors, three Cabinet secretaries, as well as executives from key investors such as Mercedes-Benz and Siemens. “SelectUSA continues to be the premier event for international companies looking to enter American markets,” said Secretary Ross. The 2018 Investment Summit focused on several issues affecting FDI in the United States, including infrastructure, tax reform, deregulation, advanced manufacturing, and the burgeoning commercial space industry.
The German Summit delegation included over 30 participants and ranked among the ten largest delegations at the event. It was led by Ambassador Richard Grenell and Regional Senior Commercial Officer, John McCaslin. At the margins of the Summit, the Representative of German Industry and Trade (RGIT) in Washington DC hosted a reception in honor of the German delegation. In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Grenell encouraged German companies to take full advantage of the pro-business agenda of the current administration and to further expand their already strong presence on the U.S. market.
