On June 4, Ambassador Emerson gave opening remarks at panel discussion, titled “A Conversation on German-American Relations with Peer Steinbrück” hosted by the German Marshall Fund of the United States of America. Ambassador Emerson spoke about the importance of German-American relations and underlined the close friendship between the two countries. Furthermore, he talked about recent challenges in German-American relations and underscored the importance of restoring mutual trust. In addition, Ambassador Emerson welcomed Peer Steinbrück, the incoming chair of the German-American Parliamentarians Group, and commended and thanked Ulrich Klose who chaired the group for over 10 years. Afterwards Mr. Steinbrück spoke about his perspectives on the state of current German-American relations. The discussion was moderated by Georg Mascolo, a renowned German journalist.
