The U.S. Embassy in Berlin and consulates in Germany have suspended all routine appointments for passports, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, and notarial services.  If you need an emergency passport for immediate international travel or for reasons relating to immigration, please contact the embassy or consulate nearest you.

Passport processing centers in the United States have suspended operations due to COVID-19.  They are no longer printing non-emergency passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad received from overseas U.S. embassies and consulates.  If you have previously applied for a passport or citizenship service, you should expect significant delaysreceiving your passport and your citizenship evidence documents. You may contact the Embassy or your local consulate to check on the status of your application.

Given the ongoing situation, we do not have an estimate for when regular passport operations will resume.  In the meantime, please hold on to your passport for routine renewal.  We will update our information as soon as U.S. passport processing centers are operational again.

U.S. embassies and consulates are still able to print emergency passports. Emergency passports are normally limited in validity to one year and cannot be extended. The application process and fee are the same as if you were applying for a regular passport. If you have an immediate need to travel and have a confirmed flight to the United States, please contact the Embassy or your local Consulate and request an emergency passport appointment.
