Location: Germany

Event: Special Consular Notary Hours for Marriage Affidavits for U.S. Citizens

Do you need a notary service for your marriage affidavit (Ehefähigkeitszeugnis)? Consular Team Germany recognizes that COVID-19 is affecting notary appointment availability and would like to assist by offering walkin services for the notarization of the certificate stating you are free to marry.

On Friday, November 6, and Friday, November 13, the U.S. Embassy in Berlin and the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt will offer walkin marriage affidavit notarizations from 9:00am to 11:00am.   While appointments are not necessary for these sessions, services will be offered on a firstcome, firstserved basis and no one will be admitted after 10:55am.

No other notary services will be provided during these sessions.  All applicants must arrive prepared.

To prepare for the service:

  • Review the notary services and marriage FAQ webpages;

  • Download, print, and prepare  the required form for your location (Berlin or  Frankfurt);

  • Bring $50.00, or the equivalent in euros, or a credit card (no EC Cards) for payment;

  • If you were previously married, bring the original/certified dated final divorce decree, and/or death certificate for your previous spouse;

  • Bring your valid U.S. passport and one other form of governmentissued photo identification; and

  • Arrive at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin or the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt prepared for security screening on the date of your choice (November 6 or November 13) between 9:00am and 11:00am with all of the required documents.
