Message to U.S. Citizens – U.S. Mission to Germany (September 4, 2020)

Location: Throughout Germany

Event: Germany-wide Warning Day on September 10 at 11:00 a.m.

On Thursday, September 10, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., all 16 federal states will test their government warning system, including warning devices such as city sirens and loudspeaker trucks.  A test notification will also be sent out through the German government warning application NINA (German Federal Emergency Information and News App).  The goal of this exercise is to familiarize citizens with the emergency alert system used by German federal or local authorities to notify the public during major incidents, such as natural disasters, bomb disposals, and other security incidents.

First, there will be a one-minute wail sound (high and low) announcing the test. Following the announcement, the public is encouraged to check local media (i.e. radio stations, TV channels, social media) for further guidance.  A continuous one-minute wail sound will signal the completion of the test.
