Roundtable entitled “LGBT Rights as Human Rights”

On the occasion of Human Rights Day, Ambassador John B. Emerson and Mrs. Emerson hosted a roundtable on the topic of “LGBT Rights as Human Rights” at the U.S. Embassy on December 9, 2013.  Patricia Davis, Director of the Office of Global Programs, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor at the U.S. Department of State and Mr. Wenzel Michalski, Director of Human Rights Watch Germany, lectured on the situation of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people in Germany, the U.S., and internationally.  Along with various representatives of local and federal LGBT associations, foundations, human rights organizations, and interest groups, as well as government officials, Member of Parliament Volker Beck, scholars and transgender activists, they discussed future challenges of LGBT and steps that actors at the national and international level could take to promote and protect LGBT rights.
