Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Demonstration Notice Frankfurt

The U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt is aware of demonstrations being planned in various German cities in coming days to protest Israeli actions in Gaza.  While German authorities expect these demonstrations to be peaceful, similar demonstrations elsewhere in Europe have turned violent.  We recommend that U.S. citizens pay attention to local news sources and avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. U.S. citizens should monitor local media and maintain a high level of vigilance and situational awareness. In the event of an emergency, contact the Police at 110 or Fire at 112, as appropriate.

We strongly encourage that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Germany enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).  STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency.  If you don’t have internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Regularly monitor the State Department’s website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution.  Read the Country Specific Information for Germany.  For additional information, refer to the “Traveler’s Checklist” on the State Department’s website.
