All visitors and items brought into the Embassy or Consulates are subject to a complete search.
For security reasons, visa applicants and U.S. citizens are not allowed to enter the Embassy or Consulates with the following items:
- Cell phones and other electronic devices (including, but not limited to smartwatches, fitness trackers, tablets, laptops, earphones, cameras, Bluetooth tracking devices, and other recording devices),
- Any sharp objects (scissors, pen knives, nail files etc.) weapons, or explosive materials of any kind,
- Cigarettes/cigars/matches/lighters,
- Sealed envelopes or packages, or
- Liquids/food (except for small quantities for babies/small children or applicants with medical necessity in plastic containers (no glass)).
Bags, with the exception of one small purse or equivalent, are also not allowed.
On days when it is raining, applicants will be able to bring a small, collapsible umbrella with no sharp points into the Consular security check point. Large umbrellas will not be permitted.
Neither the Embassy nor the Consulates have storage facilities.
We strongly discourage you from bringing the above prohibited items. If you must bring these items with you, there are private companies that provide storage facilities for a fee. These companies are not sanctioned by or otherwise affiliated with the U.S. government, and the U.S. government takes no responsibility for items left in their care.
The Embassy/Consulates are closed on German and American Holidays!
We thank you for your cooperation.
