Passport Services

Welcome to the Passport & Citizenship pages of the U.S. Embassy in Germany. This section provides information on specific consular services available to U.S. citizens in Germany.

The U.S. Embassy in Berlin and consulates in Germany are now able to offer a very limited number of appointments for passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad. We are not able to offer call-in hours at this time but will answer your email promptly. If you need an emergency passport for immediate international travel or for reasons relating to immigration, please contact the embassy or consulate nearest you.

Passport processing centers in the United States have resumed operations.  If you have previously applied for a passport or Consular Report of Birth Abroad, your documents should be produced soon and we are working to get them to you as quickly as possible.  The U.S. Embassy in Berlin and consulates in Germany have resumed processing mail-in passport applications for routine renewal.  Please click here for instructions.

U.S. embassies and consulates are still able to print emergency passports.  If you have an immediate need to travel and have a confirmed flight to the United States, please email Berlin, Frankfurt, or Munich and request an emergency passport appointment.

Please visit this website for further updates.

U.S. Citizen Services are available at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt, and the U.S. Consulate General in Munich. Please see the pages for each post in order to obtain office hours for required appointments.

All services related to passports, citizenship, or birth registration are by appointment only.

DoD and USEUCOM Personnel: All services are arranged by your Military Passport Agent. Find your local Agent here

If you are traveling within the next 2 business days, please see ” Request an Emergency Passport” on this page for further information.

Effective immediately and until further notice, U.S. Mission Germany is not able to process credit card payments associated with transactions through the mail.  We apologize for the sudden change and are aware of the significant impact this has on our customers.  This change affects all mail-in passport applications, certified copies for the IRS, immigration petitions, and charges related to scheduling depositions.  Mail in transactions will only be processed if accompanied by an international money order (please note that German money orders are only valid for one month).  Please see the passport instructions for further information on accepted payment methods. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and are working to find better ways to serve you
