The American Consulate General in Munich is seeking a Visa Clerks (Peak Season) in the Consular section. Filling of the position is subject to availability of funds.

Incumbent performs moderately difficult clerical and related work in connection with the acceptance and processing of most types of nonimmigrant (NIV) visa applications at a post with a heavy demand for such services.




All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific information supporting each item.


EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school (Germany: Realschule, USA: American High School Diploma or GED, for all other: 10 years of schooling) is required.


EXPERIENCE: One year of performance of responsible work in a clerical position, working with the public is required.


LANGUAGE: Level III (good working knowledge) in English and German is required. (speak/write and read)



  • Level I typing (20wpm) is required.
  • Tact, sensitivity and a good sense for public relations are required.
  • Incumbent is required to be able to work under continuous pressure with a high degree of accuracy and consistency.  



  • Good working knowledge of internal operating procedures and basic requirements for the most types of visa categories is required.  

The Human Resources Office will conduct standard language assessment tests and may test for other required skills as part of the selection process. Testing is conducted equitably and is administered in the same way to all applicants for the particular recruitment.

  • Additional Selection Criteria:
  1. The U.S. Mission will consider the following when determining successful candidacy: nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.
  2. Locally Employed Staff (LE Staff) of the U.S. Mission Germany having served less than 12 months in their current position are not eligible to apply.
  3. Current Locally Employed Staff (LE Staff) with an overall summary rating of ‘Needs Improvement’ or ‘Unsatisfactory’ on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  4. Current NOR employees hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first ninety (90) calendar days of their employment, unless they have a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
