Application submission procedures at the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt vary base on where the petition was filed and the immigrant visa category.

Green Card Through Family: Petition filed with USCIS Frankfurt, Application and Interview in Frankfurt: If the petition was filed with USCIS in Frankfurt and you are the spouse, parent or child under the age of 21 of a U.S. citizen, your  immigrant visa application will be processed by the Immigrant Visa Unit at the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt.  In other all cases, the approved petition will be sent to the National Visa Center which will process the immigrant visa application documents.  

If the immigration petition was approved by USCIS Frankfurt, the Immigrant Visa Unit will send you a notification letter (“Packet 3”) after the approved petition has been received. Upon receipt of this letter you may start your visa application and submit required forms and documents to the U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt. Please note that the approval notification sent to you by USCIS is not the date this office receives the approved petition. You should expect 4-6 weeks processing time between the petition approval and receipt of “Packet 3”.

Green Card Through Family or Employment: Petition Filed with USCIS in the U.S., Application processed through the National Visa Center (NVC), Interview in Frankfurt: Immigration petitions filed and approved in the U.S. and any numerically limited visa applications are processed by the National Visa Center (NVC), which will also schedule the interview appointment.  For numerical limited visa applications, the NVC contacts the petitioner once the priority date is about to become current. Learn more about the National Visa Center and processing at the NVC.
