Cases Processed through the National Visa Center
If the petition is filed with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in the United States, the case is processed through the National Visa Center (NVC). After you have completed the steps on the Immigrant Visa Process on the U.S. Department of State website, including paying the necessary fees and submitting the required immigrant visa application form (DS-260), Affidavit of Support, and supporting documents to the NVC, they will review your file for completeness. Once your case becomes qualified for an interview, NVC will work with the Immigrant Visa Unit in Frankfurt to schedule an interview appointment for you. You can learn more about the interview process including the medical examination which should take place approx. two weeks before your scheduled interview on the U.S. Department of State website.
Cases Not Processed through the National Visa Center
If the petition is filed with U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt in Germany, the Immigrant Visa Unit will send you the Instruction Package via email as soon as your petition is approved. After you have received the Instruction Package, you must submit a request to schedule your appointment through the U.S. Visa Information Service or by calling the call center representative. You also must submit the Online Immigrant Visa Application (DS-260) online and all forms and documents listed in the Instruction Package before the visa interview. At the interview, you will also need to pay for the immigrant visa application processing fee, which is a separate fee from the I-130 petition filing fee. You can learn more about the Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fee on the U.S. Department of State website.
