The American Consulate General in Frankfurt is seeking an individual for the Volunteer Foreign National Student Internship in the Human Resources section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Incumbent assists the Human Resources staff with a variety of duties in administering programs and policies for American Direct Hire and Locally Employed Staff.
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific information supporting each item.
Present enrollment in a university or vocational training school. The internship needs to be mandatory (Pflichtpraktikum) and a certificate from the university must be attached to the application.
Experience in a professional environment (previous internship or clerical work) is required.
Level IV (fluent) German language skills and Level III English (good working knowledge) are required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of clerical procedures.
- Good typing skills are required – (Level II – 40 wpm).
- Substantial computer skills with background in EXCEL and WORD.
- Please note that the Human Resources Office may conduct tests of appropriate language levels, or other required skills during the interview process.
- Eligibility Requirements: The U.S. Mission in Germany will only accept applications from non-U.S. citizen students for this internship program. The purpose of the Volunteer National Student Intern Program is to offer students enrolled in a German university/higher institute of learning the challenge of working in a foreign affairs field. - Application language is English. Certificates, awards or degrees in English or German do not need to be translated.
- Applicants must submit a complete application (cover letter, resume, and proof of enrollment in an educational institution).
- The U.S. Mission in Germany does not refund travel expenses incurred by the interviewee.
- The internship is a voluntary service. There are no benefits attached to this internship and no compensation, nor any future employment rights.
- Students selected must pass a background check and receive a clearance from the Embassy/Consulate before commencement of the internship. The security check can take up to three months and may require a personal interview with the security department of the Embassy/Consulate.The U.S. Mission will consider issues such as conflict of interest, nepotism, residency status, and whether applicant has a residence/work permit, in determining successful candidacy.
